How to fix Apple Home App placing your home location wrong in automations

I have just started playing around with Apple’s HomeKit. While trying to set up automations, I noticed that the Home App would position my home location wrong - just slightly off, but still enough to not work when using any automation that would depend on me arriving or leaving home.

It took me quite a while to figure out where HomeKit gets this from: it’s not Maps and it’s not you contact card. It is also not your phones location - no, for whatever reason, it uses my AppleTV for this. I have however not been able to change this, despite all the tricks I read about (e.g. disabling and re-enabling location services on my AppleTV).

The only thing that really worked to fix the wrong Home location in the Home app, was deleting the entire home - and also reset my AppleTV. The reset became necessary, because it started confusing an old iTunes account with my current one, so resetting it fixed two things. While it reset, I set up the Home app again on my phone. The AppleTV then integrated perfectly into that and everything worked fine since then. Even the remote access to my home data has been fixed!

So, if you experience weird things in your Home app and you have an AppleTV integrated into your HomeKit, it might be worth the effort of resetting both the Home app and the AppleTV.
